High Sierra Morning is a tribute to nature’s beauty inspired by the Sierra’s Yosemite Valley. Unemployment Blues shares the plight of the 8 million people without jobs in the country. Motorcycle Fever has a driving R&B spirit, and the other blues selections like Old Blues Man and his haunting Headstones show Walt’s Texas roots. Anyone who enjoys sailing will love Golden Gate Dream, while Walt’s solo ballad is Black Stallion.

HIGH SIERRA MORNING- INSPIRED BY THE EXQUISITE BEAUTY OF THE HIGH SIERRA THIS SONG CAME TO ME ONE MORNING CLOSE TO THE SITE OF JOHN MUIR’S ORIGINAL CABIN.
UNEMPLOYMENT BLUES- AS JOBS FLY OUT OF THE U.S. TO OTHER COUNTRIES, WE SEE OVER 8 MILLION UNEMPLOYED. THIS IS ON TOP OF HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS GOING TO THE WAR IN IRAQ, EXPANDING MILITARY AND FEDERAL BUDGET DEFICITS. MEANWHILE, AT THE SAME TIME CORPORATIONS AND THEIR CEO’S PROFIT IN THE MILLIONS.
MOTORCYCLE FEVER- THE MOTORCYCLE BUG HAS BITTEN ALL FOUR GENERATIONS OF MEN IN MY FAMILY; MY FATHER, MYSELF, MY SON AND MY 8 YEAR OLD GRANDSON WITH NO CURE IN SIGHT.
GOLDEN GATE DREAM-THIS SAILING SONG IS BASED ON MY ADVENTURE OVER 40 YEARS AGO IN SEARCH OF THE WRECK OF THE GOLDEN GATE. THIS IS A SHIP THAT SANK IN MEXICO WITH MILLIONS IN GOLD BACK IN THE 1860’S. BARRE DE NAVIDAD IS THE ACTUAL LITTLE TOWN CLOSE TO THE SITE OF THE WRECK IN MEXICO.
LONG LEGGED LADY- IS WRITTEN FOR ALL THE LONG LEGGED LADIES LIKE MY WIFE, CAROL.
BLACK STALLION- MY BALLAD BASED ON THE ORIGINAL FILM BY FRANCIS COPPOLA IN 1979. IT’S STILL ONE OF HIS BEST.
OLD BLUES MAN- THIS IS FOR THE UNSUNG LEGENDS OF THE BLUES, WHO HAVE GIVEN THE ROOTS TO THE BLUES. IT’S ALSO FOR ALL THOSE. WHO FOLLOW THEIR CREATIVE MUSE IN SPITE OF LITTLE MONEY.
HEADSTONES- THIS IS A LESSON FOR ME TO LIVE TODAY AS WELL AS POSSIBLE. IT IS A REMEMBRANCE OF MY WALK ONE WINTER’S DAY IN TEXAS BESIDE THE CEMETARY WHERE PRESIDENT JOHN KENNEDY’S ASSASIN, LEE HARVEY OSWALD, WAS BURIED.
HOPE FOR FREEDOM- THIS IS MY TRIBUTE TO WALDEN HOUSE AND THE THOUSANDS, WHO HAVE HELPED US, AS WE REACH OUR 35TH ANNIVERSARY. IT ALSO RECOGNIZES THE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS WHO HAVE RECEIVED HELP THROUGH THE YEARS AND THE MANY THOUSANDS KEEPING HOPE ALIVE FOR FREEDOM AFTER PRISON, DRUG ADDICTION, HIV AND HOMELESSNESS. AFTER STARTING WALDEN HOUSE IN 1969 IN SAN FRANCISCO’S HAIGHT ASHBURY, I HAVE SEEN MANY MIRACLES. MY ORIGINAL DREAM HAS SUCCEEDED FAR BEYOND ANYTHING I COULD EVER HAVE IMAGINED.
SEEDS FOR LOVE- SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST- THIS SONG PUTS TO MUSIC A POEM I WROTE.AS A EULOGY, AND IT PROVIDES THE PERFECT ENDING. THE LYRICS GIVE THE RETROSPECITVE FOR LIFE --THROUGH BIRTH, PAIN AND DEATH ARE BORN NEW LIFE AND LOVE.
